CHICAGO (WLS) -- Jawaun Westbrook, 28, has been charged with two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon in connection with an attack on two suburban women near Navy Pier.

Westbrook, of the 400-block of East Ohio Street, was arrested for allegedly striking the two 55-year-old women with a hammer in the 500-block of North Lake Shore Drive.

Westbrook was taken into custody shortly after the isolated incident, which took place on the lakefront path around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Both victims were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in fair condition for treatment.

Westbrook is due in bond court on Thursday.
