CHICAGO (WLS) -- A Chicago police officer who was killed over 25 years ago in the city's Hegewisch neighborhood is receiving a special honor.
A honorary street will be dedicated for Officer John Mathews. On May 21, 1988, a group of young people beat Mathews to death when he tried to break up a gathering near his home.
His family, friends and police officers will gather for the dedication at the corner of 131st and Avenue M at 11 a.m. Saturday.
