The latest crime statistics from the Chicago Police Department show an apparent drop violent crime city-wide in the month of July.

CPD reports 44 July homicides. That's down 35% from the same month last year.

Year-to-date CPD statistics shows a total of 237 homicides. That's also down 32% over the first seven months of 2024. It represents the lowest number of homicides at this point in the calendar since 2014.

The Chicago Police Department has released violent crime statistics and the number of total homicides for the month of July 2025.

Note: CPD's homicide number include non-shooting deaths.

A person of interest is in custody in connection with a West Side shooting that critically injured a 19-year-old woman late Friday night, Chicago police said.

Police said officers responded to a call about a person shot in the West Garfield Park neighborhood's 4300-block of West Adams Street just before midnight.

A 27-year-old man was shot in Humboldt Park Tuesday night, Chicago police said.

CPD responded to the 3800-block of West Grand Avenue about 8:20 p.m. and found the man outside on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds.

He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he is listed in fair condition.

No one is in custody; Area Five detectives are investigating.

A 37-year-old man was shot during a robbery on Chicago's Northwest Side Tuesday night, Chicago police said.

The man was walking in the 3200-block of North Milwaukee Avenue in Avondale just before 8:50 p.m., when a male suspect armed with a gun approached him and demanded his belongings, police said.

A Chicago shooting during a robbery on North Milwaukee Avenue in Avondale injured a 37-year-old man Tuesday night, CPD said.

The man complied, and then ran away, police said.

That's when the robber shot the victim, CPD said.

The man was shot in the leg, and taken to Illinois Masonic hospital in good condition.

No one is in custody, and Area Five detectives are investigating.
