Woman shot in Washington Park, Chicago police say
A woman was shot Saturday night at a park on South Ellsworth Drive in Washington Park, Chicago police said.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The city of Chicago continues to grapple with gun violence, which impacts hundreds of people every year. As of July 7, 2024, there have been almost 1,200 total reported shootings in the city, according to the Chicago Police Department.

"We cannot take our eyes off the ball," Chicago Police Superintendent Larry Snelling said at a news conference following a violent July 4 holiday weekend. "We cannot stop thinking about the people who have been victimized by this crime."

While long holiday weekends often see a spike in gun violence, Chicago police and city officials are working to curb shootings and make the city safer.

Man found shot to death in Bronzeville, police say

A man was found shot to death on Wednesday evening in Bronzeville, police said.

The 44-year-old victim was found inside a parked car in the 4000-block of S. King Drive around 5:19 p.m.

No one is in custody. CPD Area One Detectives are investigating.

Woman with FOID card shoots, kills intruder during home invasion, police say

A break-in suspect was shot to death on Wednesday morning on the city's West Side, according to Chicago police.

Two suspects broke into a home around 6:41 a.m. in the 700-block of Laramie Avenue on Wednesday morning.

As the suspects pulled out guns, a 23-year-old woman in the house also pulled out a gun.

Chicago police said the woman has a valid FOID card.

At some point the three started to shoot at each other when one of the male suspects was shot in the chest. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

3 shot, including 2 employees, inside Brighton Park gas station: police

Three people were wounded in a shooting inside a Brighton Park gas station Tuesday night, Chicago police said.

The shooting occurred at about 10:08 p.m. in the 3400-block of South California Avenue.

Police said four suspects were chasing a 25-year-old man and two of the suspects were firing at him as he ran into the gas station.

The 25-year-old man was wounded in the abdomen and both legs and transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was in critical condition.

Two gas station employees, a 26 -year-old man and 25-year-old man, were also critically wounded, police said.

Person shot, seriously injured near CTA Red Line station in Rogers Park, CFD says

A person was seriously injured in a shooting near a North Side CTA Red Line stop on Tuesday night, the Chicago Fire Department said.

CFD said the shooting happened in the Rogers Park neighborhood near the Howard station on North Paulina Street.

An adult was shot and taken to St. Francis Hospital in serious condition just after 9 p.m., CFD said.

What led up to the shooting was not immediately clear.

Authorities did not immediately provide further information about the shooting.
