Mel Reynolds will live in motel to avoid jail

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Former Illinois congressman Mel Reynolds will move into a motel so he can avoid going to jail.

He was in court Thursday, where he pleaded not guilty to federal tax charges. Prosecutors said they would agree to let him remain free on bond if he found a place to stay that's not too close to children.

Reynolds was convicted of statutory rape in 1995. Friday he had to surrender his passport. He will not be on electronic monitoring.
