Chicago area Memorial Day weekend events honor veterans

Several Chicago area communities hosted Memorial Day weekend events to honor veterans.

On Sunday in southwest suburban Oak Lawn, the Illinois Patriot Guard joined a ceremony at the Chapel Hill Garden South Cemetery. It included a flag escort and flagline, music and prayers.

In west suburban Wheaton, people gathered to remember service members from DuPage County who died while fighting.

The ceremony at the Veterans Memorial included a wreath laying, weapons salute and the DuPage Honor Guard retiring the colors.
