CHICAGO -- The Chicago Park District says there's something fishy about two dozen valuable koi missing from a pond in Jackson Park on the city's South Side.
The pond is in the Osaka Garden, nestled in Jackson Park behind the Museum of Science and Industry. Created in the 1940s, the garden is a peaceful sanctuary for humans and wildlife. But now the pond's two dozen 15-year-old koi are missing.
Last year, a Chicagoan donated the distinctive, two-foot fish with bright colors. A few were caught by predators, but park district officials are concerned the others may have been stolen.
Officials say the koi can be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars each, but require expert care. They hope that if someone stole the fish, they will be returned alive.
Officials say baby koi remain in the pond.
