VANCOUVER ISLAND, Canada -- Most parents celebrate the start of school by posting pictures of their children on social media, but one mom decided to celebrate with 'Mary Jane.'

The mom was pulled over for speeding in a school zone and allegedly told police she smoked a joint in celebration of her kids returning to school.

The women had just dropped their children off at Marigold Elementary and Spectrum Secondary in Vancouver Island, British Columbia. However, police say she was not the only mom who participated in the 'celebration.'

"As soon as she rolled down the window it was pretty evident that the people in that car, or the driver herself, had been smoking a joint prior to being stopped," Sgt. John Price told CTV Vancouver Island.

It is unclear how many mothers participated in the celebration. However, a drug recognition expert later confirmed that the mom driving did smoke marijuana.

The mom did receive a ticket for allegedly speeding in the school zone, however officers determined she was sober enough to drive.

Canada is currently taking steps to legalize the recreational use of marijuana in 2017.
