Mondo Meatball features flavors from around the world
CHICAGO (WLS) -- How many ways can you enjoy a meatball? Apparently quite a few, according to the folks at Mondo Meatball, a new concept in the 1400-block of North Milwaukee.
"Mondo Meatball is a collection of meatballs that express the flavors of the world. Starts with Italian, the basic, classic red, pesto, moves to Latin, Swedish, French dijonnaise, Thai peanut sauce or Korean barbecue sauce," said owner Dean Casagrande.
There are chicken-bacon versions, spicy pork, turkey even veggie - featuring brown rice and cannellini beans - but it all stems from the basic recipe brought to this country from the owner's grandmother.
"It's an all-beef meatball with a high percentage of breadcrumb, allows for some tremendous flavor from the spices, we then took that basic idea and expanded it into other areas," he said.
You can opt for a bowl of them with a choice of sauce, or in a sandwich, or even a salad maybe topped with tzatziki sauce. Or a trio of sliders, to keep it simple.
So the concept is pretty simple: you pick out your style - bowl, sandwich, slider, salad - then you pick out your flavor of meatball and finally, you pick out your sauce. And honestly, it's difficult to go wrong, because you can mix and match so many different ways.
