ISLAND LAKE, Ill. -- Murder charges have been filed against a McHenry man who was taken into custody after a car crash Tuesday morning. Police have charged Howard E. Dibbern with two counts of murder and one count of possession of a stolen vehicle, according to the McHenry County Sherriff's office.
The crash is connected to a homicide in Island Lake. Dibbern was identified as a person of interest after he drove a car owned by Karen M. Scavelli, who was found dead of blunt force trauma Monday night, into a house in Mundelein following a police pursuit Tuesday morning.
According to prosecutors, police chased Dibbern after he was suspected of stealing a purse from a Mundelein restaurant.
