Typically a hammer and nails are tools that you would use to hang art. But David Foster is utilizing hardware to create some art of his own.
Foster is an artist based in Warrington, England, who meticulously hammers thousands of nails into canvas to create the vivid images you see above. Foster was originally an architect technician, until health concerns forced him to leave his job. But Foster found a creative outlet with his experimental hardware artwork, which has received a fair amount of attention from galleries and buyers.
Foster's process includes reproducing a photograph of his subject with an ink pen. Then he enlarges the ink drawing to map out where the nails will be hammered. You can see Foster's work above, and learn more about his artwork below.
