ELWOOD, Ill. (WLS) -- The national Christmas tree is on its way to Washington, D.C.

The 88-foot white spruce was cut down in Minnesota a couple of weeks ago.

The tree will have visited 30 communities before its final destination in the nation's capital. It stopped in Milwaukee Tuesday.

The tree will make visits to Wilmington High School in Wilmington, Ill., and in Elwood, Ill., where the village will turn on its holiday lights Wednesday night.
