Chicago Fire Department demonstrates hot car dangers

It only takes a couple of minutes locked inside a hot car for things to turn deadly.

The Chicago Fire Department demonstrated Thursday just how hot it can get when the windows are rolled up; one thermometer read 156 degrees.

It's a wake-up call for drivers to make sure they don't leave children or pets locked inside.

Fire officials say if you do come across a car with a child or pet locked inside, call 911 right away. Do not attempt to break a window because you could injure yourself and whoever is locked inside the car.
