NORTH CHICAGO, Ill. (WLS) -- The Naval Station Great Lakes in north suburban North Chicago, Ill., was briefly on lockdown Friday afternoon because of an armed robbery off-base, officials said. The lockdown was lifted shortly after 3 p.m.
The bank robbery happened at Great Lakes Credit Union in the 2500-block of Green Bay Road at around 1:40 p.m., according to the FBI.
Officials are looking for a black male wearing a black shirt, blue jeans and a black ski mask. During the robbery, the individual displayed a silver hand gun.
The base's official Twitter account tweeted out the lockdown shortly after 2 p.m., instructing everyone to take immediate cover in the nearest building.
Officials said the offender fled on foot.
No injuries were reported.
