HAMMOND, Ind. (WLS) -- A one-vehicle crash on I-80 in Hammond killed a woman after her vehicle ran off an exit ramp and into a retention pond, police said.

Trina Harrell, 42, was killed when her vehicle rolled on a curve at the I-80 eastbound to northbound Kennedy Avenue ramp around 6:08 p.m. Friday, police said.

Witnesses said the vehicle was driving erratically at a high rate of speed before it continued straight when attempting to exit on the curved ramp, police said. The vehicle, a 2005 Toyota Corolla, landed on its top in a nearby retention pond with waist-deep water.

Harrell was taken to Munster Community Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
