McCarthy: Body cameras holding officers more accountable

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The relationship between Chicago police and the community is improving and officer body cameras are holding everyone more accountable, Chicago Police Superintendent Gary McCarthy said Wednesday during a speech at the City Club in Chicago.

McCarthy said beat patrols are building trust between officers and civilians.

"I find it fascinating that in the first 90 days of this program, we don't have one good video to show anybody where you say, 'This is the reason why you have body cameras,'" McCarthy told the crowd. "Because it's my contention that everybody acts better when they're on film."

McCarthy also told the crowd that both arrests and the number of complaints against police officers are down.

The City Club visit kicks off his listening tour.
