SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (WLS) -- Drivers with unpaid tickets in northwest suburban Schaumburg will soon be able to pay off their violations for less.

Schaumburg police are offering an amnesty program for the month of October.

It applies to delinquent parking and municipal tickets at "final determination" with fines at $80, $120 and $200. The village website said handicap violations at $250 are not eligible for the amnesty program.

Under the program, late fees will be waived. The village said in most cases, this will result in a 50 percent reduction in the amount due.
