Lisamarie Villasana, 27, charged in beating death of 5-year-old stepdaughter

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 27-year-old Chicago woman is charged with the beating death of her 5-year-old stepdaughter.

Police say Verna Tobicoe's stepmother, Lisamarie Villasana, told them the girl had fallen. Investigators say they found bruises and cigarette burns on the girl's body. She died of internal injuries Thursday afternoon.

Villasana has been charged with first degree murder.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is also investigating Villasana and the girl's father.
