Woman who narrowly escapes Harvey home invasion shares story

HARVEY, Ill. (WLS) -- A woman who was captured on video as she was nearly the victim of a violent home invasion in south suburban Harvey spoke to ABC7 on Saturday.

The offender may be connected to another crime, police said.

"It keep just replaying in my mind. It is very, very scary," said Brittany Mays, who was walking her Yorkie dog last week around 5 a.m.

Her dog started to act strange, and soon after she saw a strange man lurking on the side of her home.

"By the time I can literally get in the door and was closing it to lock it he was running up behind me with the gun. I hurried up and slammed the door and locked the door and he pointed the gun," she said.

Last Wednesday, Harvey police said a woman from Harvey was kidnapped in Chicago and eventually dumped near where this attempted kidnapping occurred last week. Police say that woman was not hurt.

Mays said she is thankful that she got away and that her close call was captured by her home security cameras.

"I am very glad because now we were able to give police some type of evidence so we can track him down because they are saying this happened to another young lady. I am not saying this is the same person or if he have any involvement but if it is then I am glad I can help," said Mays.

Police in both Harvey and Chicago are investigating. In each case, at least two people were involved. But the vans used in the crimes were different colors.
