CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 13-year-old boy recently took his own life, writing in a note that he had been bullied at school and teachers had not done anything to help.

A new survey by the CDC found that nearly one in three gay, lesbian and bisexual students had been bullied at school and one in five straight kids reported being bullied.

As children go back to school, now is an important time for families to talk about bullying.

Sarah Schriber, director of Prevent School Violence Illinois, sat down with ABC7 to discuss what it is and what schools in Illinois are required to do to address the problem.
