NFL coach Marv Levy gets honorary street designation in Chicago

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Marv Levy, the Hall of Fame coach of the Buffalo Bills and native Chicagoan, received was honored Tuesday morning.

An "Honorary Marv Levy Way" street sign was unveiled at the corner of North Lakeview Avenue and West Deming Place on Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood on the North Side. Quite an honor for a hometown boy.

"I'm blown away honored and if I'm red faced now, I'm blushing," Levy said.

Levy, 91, had coached for 47 years from high school to the Super Bowl -- four times as coach of the Buffalo Bills. The Harvard graduate added intelligence to a game of brute strength.

He also added a great sense of humor.

"I just want everybody here to know, however, that beginning January 1, this is going to become a toll road," Levy joked with the crowd at the sign unveiling.

Levy has received countless awards in his day, but this street sign is a first.

It's also a first for his wife Mary Frances Levy.

"It is amazing. Honorary Marv Levy Way will be there for such a long time when we for walks," she said.

Levy has already written four books. His fifth book for kids about the Chicago Cubs is due out soon.
