CHICAGO (WLS) -- Three men were shot - one fatally - in Chicago's North Center neighborhood Friday evening.

Police said a fight broke out at a party in a second floor apartment in the 1900-block of W. Belle Plaine. Around 7:30 p.m. a man allegedly shot two people, hitting one in the neck and the other in the stomach. One of the victims allegedly fired back, fatally shooting the gunman in the chest, police said.

Two victims were rushed to Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital in critical condition.

Witnesses said several people, including a woman, were taken away in handcuffs.

Crisis responder Andrew Holmes said the victims are a white man, a black man, and a Hispanic man.

"At any given time, at any given place, anything of this nature could happen anywhere. My job is just to get to the family to help the family to the next steps after the homicide," Holmes said.

The shooting occurred just four blocks from Mayor Rahm Emanuel's residence in the 4200-block of N. Hermitage.
