Department of Aviation submits plan to cut O'Hare plane noise

CHICAGO (WLS) -- There's a new plan to cut plane noise at O'Hare International Airport and its creators are hoping the idea will fly with the government.

The Department of Aviation submitted the "Fly Quiet Runway Rotation Plan" to the FAA for its approval. It's a six month test, which could begin as early as July, in which the designated nighttime arrival and departure runways at O'Hare will be rotated each week in order to possibly give people living nearby a break.

"The communities do need some relief, especially at nighttime when people are more affected by the noise," said Chicago Department of Aviation Commissioner Ginger Evans.

If approved, the plan would be the first of its kind in the U.S.
