CHICAGO (WLS) -- The world premiere of the Gloria Estefan musical "On Your Feet" received a standing ovation from Chicago's opening night crowd.
The musical based on the love story and success of Gloria and Emilio Estefan has the theatre world is buzzing. The pre-Broadway opening naturally had the multi Grammy Award-winning duo excitedly on their feet, on the red carpet.
"As things get more perfected and locked in, I cry of happiness because it's happening," Gloria Estefan said. "It couldn't be any better it's far beyond my wildest dreams."
"This is about the American dream, any minority, things can be done, this is a country that we belong to, that we love and we respect," said Emilio Estefan. "I cried (Wednesday) night like a baby and I danced, too, which is good."
"On Your Feet" has a stellar creative team including a writer with an Academy Award for best picture winner "Birdman."
"They're fantastically down to earth people, they're incredibly passionate people, they're very, very honest people," said writer Alexander Dinelaris. "I said to them when I first met them, 'You're a writer's nightmare, you're married 30-plus years, you love each other, I need some dirt.' They don't have that."
The show runs at the Oriental Theater in Chicago through July 5 and then will take its bows on Broadway in October.
