Orland Park police investigating brazen home burglaries

ORLAND PARK, Ill. (WLS) -- Police are warning residents after a string of burglaries in southwest suburban Orland Park.

Three break-ins have been reported in a single subdivision since April 1. All of the burglaries have occurred in an area bounded by Regent Drive to the east, 94th Avenue to the west, 151st Street to the north and Wheeler Drive to the south.

After 30 years of living in the Village Square subdivision, Helen Kelamis said she no longer feels safe after the series of break-ins.

"I get up in the middle of the night because I don't feel safety," Kelamis said. "Where is this society going to, we don't have no more safety in our homes."

Police said there have been three home break-ins and two attempted burglaries in the area over the last two weeks. Some have happened in the evening hours between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. , when people are at home, eating dinner or watching TV with their families.

"People are a little nervous around here about what's going on, one after another," said Cindy Blatt, another resident.

Police said that in a majority of the cases, the burglars are busting their way in through the front door.

Police are warning neighbors in this subdivision to be on alert and to report suspicious activity immediately.

Orland Park police haven't said if they believe the same individuals are responsible for all of the break-ins, but they are asking for the public's help in identifying potential suspects.
