Park Ridge police said driver, Shalom Peters, died on the scene
PARK RIDGE, Ill. (WLS) -- Police in Park Ridge are investigating a fatal crash Tuesday.
The one-car crash occurred at about 2:38 a.m. in the 1000-block of Oakton Street, police said.
A 2017 black Mercedes SUV had been traveling east on Oakton at a high rate of speed, when it crossed into the westbound lanes of traffic and struck two utility poles on the north side of the street, according to police.
The driver, who has been identified as Shalom Peters, was pronounced dead on the scene, Park Ridge police said.
There were no other occupants inside of the vehicle, police said.
There were some power outages in the area after the crash. ComEd is on the scene.
Oakton Street is closed between Greenwood and Cumberland as they investigate the crash.
The eastbound lanes reopened about 1:30 p.m., but westbound lanes remain closed.
