Pedestrians struck in Lincoln Park hit and run
Two people have been hospitalized after being struck by a car in an apparent hit-and-run crash in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Two people were hospitalized after being struck by a car Friday night in a hit-and-run crash in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood, officials said.

Witnesses said two women were crossing the street in the middle of the block when they were struck, between 8 and 8:30 p.m. Witnesses said the driver did not stop and was traveling at a high rate of speed, perhaps as fast as 50 or 60 miles per hour, and driving erratically.

"And the car came flying up behind us, you could hear somebody coming at a fast rate of speed. And he veered to the left a bit, he almost hit our car, and then up about three or four car lengths ahead I saw him swerve back into the lane and I saw something fly up in the air," said Micki Emas, who witnessed the crash along with her husband Gary.

Officials would only say one pedestrian was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious to critical condition after being struck near North Clybourn Avenue and West Sheffield Avenue.

One witness said one of the women was dragged several blocks but police have not confirmed that.

Chicago police are investigating the crash.
