CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 24-hour vigil to remember fallen Chicago police officers is underway Thursday.
A police honor guard will stand watch at the Gold Star Families Memorial and Park, just east of Soldier Field, until midnight. The vigil began with the playing of Taps overnight.
On Wednesday, 574 flags were placed at the memorial. Each flag represents a Chicago police officer killed in the line of duty.
The event marks the start of Police Memorial Month.
