MAHOMET, Ill. (WLS) -- Governor Bruce Rauner is using a campaign-style tour to rip Democrats who control the Illinois legislature for failing to approve a state budget.

The Republican governor appeared with a GOP candidate for state senate. He says Democratic House Speaker Michael Madigan has controlled Illinois for 30 years and that the state has huge deficits and is billions in debt.

Madigan has repeatedly said Rauner is holding hostage schools, social service programs and higher education institutions because of his "personal agenda."
