Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner endorsed a candidate Wednesday in the race to replace Congressman Aaron Schock.
Rauner will back Republican State Sen. Darin LaHood, R-Dunlap. He represents the 37th District in the state Senate.
LaHood is the son of former U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, who represented the 18th Congressional District seat before Schock.
The younger LaHood is a Peoria native.
Schock resigned March 31 after being dogged for weeks regarding his use of taxpayer money, including the decorating of his office in a Downton Abbey theme.
