Abena Joan Brown, Chicago arts pioneer, dies

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Abena Joan Brown, the woman considered by many to be the mother of Chicago's black arts community, died Sunday.

The Chicago native was recognized internationally as a major force in theater and organizational and artistic development.

Brown served as president and founder of the eta Creative Arts Foundation for 40 years.

Services for Brown are still pending.
