Last week, a "bed shaker alarm" was placed into a Buffalo Grove home to alert a child in the case of a fire.

The "bed shaker" alarms are used for those who are deaf or hard of hearing in case of a fire.

"This is an incredible example of how community engagement can make a real difference," said Buffalo Grove Fire Chief Larry Kane.

Officials said they reached Camp I Am Me after a mother asked for help.

She said her 4-year-old son did not like to wear his hearing aids to bed, and she feared he would not know when there was an emergency.

The departments quickly joined forced thanks to the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance's "Be Alarmed!" smoke alarm program.
