CPD warns of North Side home invasion, attempted sexual assault

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago police have issued an alert about a recent home invasion, attempted criminal sexual assault and attempted burglaries in the Rogers Park neighborhood.

Early Friday morning, a nearly naked man pried open a basement window of a home in the 2000-block of West Lunt Avenue and attacked a 32-year-old woman in her bathroom, police said.

The woman was able to fight the man off, police said.

After that incident, there were reports of attempted burglaries in the same block, according to CPD. It all happened in about 45 minutes.

About an hour before the Rogers Park home invasion, there was an attempted criminal sexual assault about a mile north on Dobson Street in Evanston, police said. The suspect had a similar description, police said.

The suspect was also fought off in that situation.

The suspect was trying to remove the victim's clothes and choking her, when a neighbor came out to help.

The suspect then ran away.

The suspect is described as 19 to 25 years old, with a thin build and medium-length curly hair. He is 5-feet, 5-inches to 5-feet, 7-inches tall, police said.

He was wearing a black hoodie with USMC written on the back in gold lettering.

He was also wearing a light-colored hoodie wrapped around his waist and light-colored pants, police said.

Anyone with information on the crimes is asked to call Area Three Detectives at (312) 744-8261 or submit an anonymous tip at CPDTIP.com.

Some Rogers Park neighbors are paying a bit more attention to their surroundings Monday.

"I'm really concerned. It makes you rethink how you go about your day," Arlette Luciano said.

"It makes you kinda think, 'I'm gonna have to start paying more attention,'" Ryan Flood said. "It's scary to know this is happening more frequently, more often. It shouldn't be happening. It shouldn't happen."

Chicago police on Monday said a female victim was walking south on Kedzie Avenue from Milwaukee Avenue in Logan Square Sunday, when someone grabbed her from behind.

The suspect fled north toward Wrightwood, police said, calling it a criminal sexual abuse incident.

The suspect in that incident is described as about 5-feet, 10-inches tall, wearing a dark-colored graphic hooded sweatshirt, light-colored gym shoes and a mask.
