CHICAGO (WLS) -- A driver has died after being hit by a "large object" and crashing in the outbound lanes of the Dan Ryan express lanes early Monday morning.
State Police said troopers responded about 5:10 a.m. to southbound Interstate 94 for a report of a crash.
Chopper 7 was over the scene as police investigated a crash in the express lanes near 29th Street.
A gray GMC Yukon was seen with a large hole in the front windshield near the driver's seat. The vehicle's airbags also deployed after it appeared to have crashed into a concrete wall.

Illinois State Police said a large piece of metal came through the windshield before the crash.
First responders were seen giving the driver CPR.
The 45-year-old Chicago man was taken to an area hospital, where he later died.
The metal is believed to have come off a semi-trailer with an intermodal container, police said.
By 8:30 a.m., express lanes reopened after the damaged vehicle was towed away.
Anyone with information or video of the crash is asked to call state police at 847-608-3200.
