Ground Stop, Delay issued at O'Hare airport due to storms
CHICAGO (WLS) -- Severe weather moved through the Chicago area Thursday evening, bringing strong storms and a drastic drop in temperatures.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch and Warning were issued for multiple counties in the south suburbs and Northwest Indiana, and they have since expired.
A Ground Delay was issued at Chicago O'Hare International Airport until 12:59 a.m. Friday due to the weather after a previous Ground Stop was lifted. Average flight delays at O'Hare were 95 minutes as of 5:15 p.m., according to the FAA.
The forecast showed the storms would arrive in Chicago area between 4 and 10 p.m.
Some storms were severe, with large hail and wind as the main concerns.
The cold front was expected to drastically drop temperatures. Some locations could drop 20 to 30 degrees in one to two hours.
Also on Thursday, fans packed Wrigley Field for the Cubs home opener against the Washington Nationals. First pitch is at 1:20 p.m.
The game featured temperatures starting in the 60s but then they dropped into the low 40s by the last inning.
Temperatures varied across the Chicago area.
Most of Cook County was under a Level 2 to 3 out of 5 for risk of severe weather Thursday evening.

There was a small risk for a tornado well south of Interstate 80.
