17-year-old boy dies after shooting inside store in East Chicago, police say

EAST CHICAGO, Ind. (WLS) -- A teen died after a shooting Saturday morning inside of a store in northwest Indiana.

The shooting happened around 9:24 a.m. at Harbor Food Mart in the 3800 block of Guthrie Street in East Chicago, Indiana, police said.

The victim, a 17-year-old boy, was shot in the head at the location, police said. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The teen's name has not yet been released.

East Chicago police investigators said the suspect fled the scene on foot and was reportedly wearing a black ski mask.

No arrests have been made as police and the Lake County Prosecutor's Homicide Task Force continue to investigate.
