72-year-old pedestrian hit, killed in Wheeling; crash under investigation: police

WHEELING, Ill. (WLS) -- A 72-year-old Geneva man was killed Monday, after a car hit him in north suburban Wheeling, police said.

Wheeling police responded about 6:25 p.m. Monday to the 1000-block of Valley Stream Drive for a report of a crash involving a 2018 Ford Explorer and a pedestrian.

Robert Lund was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with critical injuries. He died about 3 a.m. Tuesday, officials said.

The Wheeling Police Department Traffic Unit continues to investigate the fatal crash.

It was not immediately clear what led up to the incident.
