Chicago man faces first-degree murder charge in beating death of Chicago Lawn infant, police say

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A Chicago man was sentenced for the beating a 9-month-old baby to death, court records show.

Josue Juarez, a 9-month-old boy, was found unresponsive in an apartment building at 60th Street and Sacramento Avenue in the summer of 2020.

At the time, Joshua Juarez was charged with first-degree murder

Nearly six years later, Juarez was sentenced to serve 50 years in prison, according to court documents. He was convicted in January.

Police said hospital staff told them he had signs of extensive trauma to his body. The child's parents allegedly told emergency crews the child was choking on food and turned blue.

However, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office ruled the baby's death a homicide.
