14-year-old boy shot in South Austin, police say

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A teenage boy was shot on the West Side early Sunday morning, Chicago police said.

Police said the shooting happened in the South Austin neighborhood's 5500-block of West Van Buren Street just after 1:20 a.m.

A 14-year-old boy suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the body. He self-transported to Loretto Hospital, and the Chicago Fire Department transferred him to Stroger Hospital.

The teen is listed in fair condition.

What led up to the shooting was not immediately clear.

Area Four detectives are investigating. Authorities did not immediately provide further information.
