STREAMWOOD, Ill. (WLS) -- A person was taken into custody after an hours-long standoff Wednesday night in Streamwood, police said.

Police said the suspect was taken into custody at about 11:59 p.m. and the streets around Yellowstone Drive and Kings Canyon Drive have reopened.

People who live and work nearby said they had seen dozens of police vehicles from multiple law enforcement agencies at the scene in Streamwood, and they had been there for hours, since around 4 p.m.

Residents said they saw officers in tactical gear with long guns, a command vehicle and drones in the air.

ABC7 observed video of police using a loudspeaker to try to communicate with the suspect.

Neighbors were told to stay indoors. ABC7 talked to one man who came home from work but couldn't get to his house.

"It's strange, because I have never experienced this in this neighborhood, like never," Streamwood resident Eke Uduma said. "For the number of years I've been here, I have never experienced such incidents."

Police blocked off a number of roads in the area, including an entrance to the subdivision at Lake Street and Elizabeth.

"More and more police just kept showing up, and it was like, wow, something really serious has got to be going on in there," said Andrew Dvorak, who works nearby.
