I-Team Quick Tip: Imposter scam alert

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Here's a quick tip about an imposter scam that Chicago police say is targeting seniors, something the ABC7 I-Team has covered extensively.

Police say criminals are posing as tech support, government officials and law enforcement claiming you owe money or your accounts are at risk.

Victims are pressured to empty savings, buy gift cards, deposit money into crypto ATMs, or even purchase gold that's later picked up by a courier.

Scammers create a false sense of urgency, so never rush into deciding anything.

Legitimate businesses and government officials will never ask you to send money.

Also, never give a stranger remote access to your computer or click links from unexpected texts, emails, or pop-ups.

When in doubt, call the police.
