Collectibles auctions for CURE

HIGHWOOD, Ill. (WLS) -- Epilepsy affects 1 in 26 Americans, yet receives less federal funding than multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy and Parkinson's combined. The bridge the gap, Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy (CURE), funds cutting-edge research and challenges scientists around the globe to find a cure for the disease. Since 1988, CURE has raised more than $40 million for epilepsy research and funded over 200 projects in 15 countries around the world.

On Saturday, September 10, 2016, RE: Epilepsy is hosting a silent and live auction to benefit CURE at the Toadstool Pub in Highwood, Illinois. Items on the block include signed sports memorabilia from Mike Tyson, Jimmy Butler, and Ernie Banks. There are also experiences up for auction, including a suite at the United Center for a Bulls game and a curling party for 16 people. There's even a custom painted Cubs mini-fridge available to the highest bidder. In all, there are close to 100 items available at the event. The goal is to raise $100,000 to support CURE. The co-founder of RE: Epilepsy, Tim Loesch, and CURE Board Member, Blake Cunneen, sat down with ABC 7 Eyewitness News to talk about the upcoming event and the research it will support.
