PORTAGE, Mich. (WLS) -- Two people from the Chicago area died after a set of tires flew off a semi causing a crash in Michigan.
The crash happened Saturday afternoon on Interstate 94 in Portage, Mich. Police said the tires came loose and hit a car going the opposite direction, with three people inside.
Backseat passenger Rebecca Avery, of Glenview, died at the scene. The driver, Michael Ditewig of Chicago, died Sunday in the hospital. A third person has minor injuries.
Police aren't sure what caused the tires to break away.
