DELTONA, FL -- Three middle school students in Florida are facing felony poisoning charges.
The students allegedly put red pepper flakes into their teacher's soda in Deltona earlier this week.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office says one of the 12-year-old girls was upset about being disciplined by her 52-year-old teacher earlier this week.
Authorities say the girls bought the pepper flakes the next day. Investigators say one student distracted the teacher, another grabbed the soda and a third dumped the pepper inside the drink.
When the teacher took a drink, Sheriff's deputies say she began to choke and experiences shortness of breath.
The girls were arrested on Friday and taken to a juvenile detention center.
They also face charges on tampering with a consumer product.
