10-year-old boy killed in Gurnee crash remembered

WAUKEGAN, Ill. (WLS) -- A north suburban community came together Sunday to remember a 10-year-old boy killed in a crash this Memorial Day weekend.



St. Mary's Knanaya Jacobite Syriac Orthodox Church in Waukegan held a memorial service for Reeve Mathew.



Reeve was killed Saturday when his aunt lost control of her car and slammed into a median on I-94 in Gurnee. Reeve and an 11-year old boy were both ejected from the vehicle.

The other child and two adults are in serious condition.



"Today will be about just remembering his life and his fervent spirit and his innocent playfulness and how much of good kid he was," said Deacon Jake Jacob, of St. Mary's Knanaya Jacobite Syriac Orthodox Church



A public wake will be held 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Marsh Funeral Homes in Gurnee. The funeral will be Friday at St. Mary's Knanaya Jacobite Syriac Orthodox Church.
