Cardinal George ordains new deacons

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Francis Cardinal George ordains seven men who will serve the church as permanent deacons.

They've all completed a four year program. Their duties include caring for the poor, performing baptisms and marriages, and assisting the priest during mass.

Most of the men are married, have families and even other jobs.

Saturday the cardinal ordained twelve new priests during a ceremony at Holy Name Cathedral.
