MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (WLS) -- Three boys and a suburban teenage girl were rescued Saturday afternoon from the choppy waves of Lake Michigan along Washington Park in Michigan City, Ind., according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
A church group from Chicago was visiting the area when three boys with the group lost their footing while swimming in the lake and went under, the DNR said.
Multiple people including a south suburban Mokena teen ran into the water to rescue them. The teen girl was pulled underwater by one of the boys.
The teen girl and the three boys were transported to St. Anthony's in Michigan City for treatment, DNR said.
All are being released except one of the juveniles who was airlifted to South Bend for continued treatment, officials said.
