MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (WLS) -- A puppy named "Chance" is getting a second one thanks to an animal rescue group in northwest Indiana.
Chance is a 5-month-old terrier pit bull mix who was found wheezing, foaming at the mouth and stumbling on Christmas. He had scars from duct tape being wrapped around his muzzle and a pair of broken hips.
That's when the animal rescue group Guardians of the Green Mile took over. Now, the group hopes after some therapy and training, Chance will be able to help teach children how to treat pets properly.
"Eventually he'll go into schools and he'll tell his story - a brief story, nothing horrific - so they'll get the point that somebody was not nice to them," a member of Guardians of the Green Mile said.
Chance's former owner, Richard Cope, is wanted on charges of animal cruelty and neglect.
