Woman, 79, injured while fending off attempted mugging

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 79-year old woman was assaulted Saturday afternoon in the city's Lake View neighborhood, police said.

An offender tried to grab her purse and when the woman wouldn't let go, the attacker hit her, police said.

The incident happened at about 1:30 p.m. near Addison and Lake Shore Drive.

Authorities do not believe the incident is related to a spat of armed robberies in the Lake View neighborhood this week.
