THOUSAND OAKS, CA -- A search is underway in Thousand Oaks for an exotic and dangerous snake that attacked a dog.
Officials say an albino monocled cobra attacked the dog Wednesday morning near the 1300 block of Rancho Lane.
The dog was taken to an animal hospital, where it was listed in critical condition. The dog's owner was able to take pictures of the white snake.
Animal Control officials were sent to the neighborhood to search for the cobra, which is said to be venomous and very dangerous. Residents were advised not to approach or handle the snake in any way.
The monocled cobra can be active at any time of day, but officials say it is most active during the morning or evening hours when it is cooler.
Anyone who sees the snake was asked to contact Los Angeles County Agoura Animal Care Center at (818) 991-0071 or California Department of Fish and Wildlife at (909) 899-0659.
